About Barbara Starr
Barbara Starr, is an award winning designer, production supervisor, product developer and mentor to emerging fashion designers; who has been involved in the clothing industry since her teenage years.
A graduate of University of California - Los Angeles, Barbara started the brand Terra Cotta in L.A. in 1985. Following a relocation to Toronto Canada in 1990, she opened up Terra Cotta Clothing as a production studio with a retail store near Yonge St. and Eglington Ave.
After an extended period in the trendy Queen West neighborhood, Barbara and the Terra Cotta brand now call the up and coming Junction Triangle neighborhood home. Barbara continues to be the product developer for labels such as MIIK Inc. (www.miik.ca), Sabina, 98 and 49th Apparel (www.49thapparel.com). In addition to these successes she continues to design and produce the Terra Cotta brand. Terra Cotta can be found for sale in her own studio as well as and Zade Jones Studio in Toronto and 49th Apparel in Sault St. Marie.
A strong believer in sharing her creative knowledge, Barbara not only teaches private lessons to several eager students, but also has also acted as a mentor to young fashion professionals for several years. Through this mentorship program, Barbara has ushered in the careers of Chloe Gordon of Beaufille (www.beaufille.com) and Michelle Watson of Michi (www.michiny.com). A dedicated professional who has been sought after to speak at fashion industry events, Barbara still makes time for her daughter, large circle of friends and Tai Chi.
